How to apply for Megha Health Insurance Scheme in Meghalaya

MHIS is a universal health insurance scheme (UHIS) in Meghalaya, using the existing Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) framework to provide health insurance to all the residents of the State, including Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna beneficiaries but leaving out the state and central government employees. The Megha Health Insurance Scheme was launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on 15th December 2012, with an objective to provide financial help to all the citizens of the Meghalaya at the time of hospitalization and shorten the out-of-pocket expenses of the citizens. There is no age limit for this scheme and pre-existing diseases will also cover under this insurance scheme. The insurance policy is valid until one year and beneficiaries must renew their smart cards every yearly by paying a nominal amount.

Benefits of  Scheme:

  • The Scheme covers up to Rs. 2,00,000/- for a family of five on a floater basis for hospitalization expenses
  • It is applicable for any Below Poverty Line (BPL) family, whose information is included in the district BPL list prepared by the State government eligible families must enroll at enrolling station, and the household head’s identity should be confirmed by the authorized official

The following is the procedure to apply for MHIS in Meghalaya

  • The office of Health department of Meghalaya will provide an application form
  • The applicant should visit the State Nodal officer with all required documents and application form

  • Aadhar card
  • Residence proof
  • Ration card
  • Non-creamy layer certificate for OBC caste
  • Ration card
  • Caste certificate
  • Disability certificate
  • Self-attest photocopies of original documents must attach to the forms
